2020 Medicare Supplemental

2020 Medicare Supplemental (Medigap) Plan Changes

Hello again fom your friends at MPC Insurance Group. We are fast approaching the fall open enrollment season which runs from October 15 to December 7. During this time of year, a beneficiary can switch Medicare Advantage plans, switch Prescription Drug Plans or switch from a Medicare Supplemental (Medigap) plan to a Medicare Advantage plan. Of course, if you are satisfied with your plan, you do not need to do anything, the plan will automatically renew.

If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, please look for the annual notice of change (ANOC) from your insurance carrier and review the changes carefully. If you have questions or want to make a change to your plan, please contact us for an appointment.

For those of you that have Medicare Supplement plans and have either Plan F or Plan C, you will be able to keep those plans. For beneficiaries turning 65 after December 31, 2019, you will no longer be able to purchase Plan F or Plan C. For those individuals who currently have Plan F or Plan C, please monitor your rate increases and let us know if you want to switch supplement plans. Plans D and G are both good alternatives and have a part B deductible of $185.  Plan N is also a good alternative with a part B deductible of $185 and $20 copayments for physician visits along with a $50 copayment for emergency room visits. All three are less costly than either Plan F or Plan C and provide very good benefit levels. Please note that some Medicare Supplement plans do not allow a change without asking medical questions and looking at medical history. This process is called “underwriting”. Note however that there is no underwriting when switching to a Medicare Advantage plan.

Again, if you would like to discuss your coverage in more detail, we would be happy to meet with you and go through alternatives. Please contact us at 717-980-3201 or at info@mpcins.com.
